SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER, 2021
Exhibition located in the window at Friesen’s Bigway Foods, Rosthern
10 Artists 30 sitters 3 hours…
This show shines a light on those who make our community special and the diversity we value. It is a portrait mural that celebrates what we share and how we can work towards a brighter future together.
The idea for the Red Chair Project and exhibition grew out of a desire to feel connected to others after a long year of isolation. Having a public art event and show seemed like a great way to uplift and celebrate our community. The Station’s Visual Arts Committee invited 10 local artists to paint 1 local sitter an hour for 3 hours, outside at the Farmer’s Market! It was wonderful to see artists and community members interacting during this event while watching so many portraits come together. Everyone managed to stay cool, hydrated and enjoy the process – thanks to all the volunteers and supporters that made this project possible.
Bringing this show to you is important to us so we have taken it downtown, Rosthern, while our gallery undergoes renovations. Friesen’s Bigway Foods has generously given us use of their front window for this Exhibit. Come view the show from the sidewalk during the month of September 2021 or view it virtually.
