Celebrating community with a collaborative mural painting day!
Rosthern Paints Together: the Circle Project was a collaborative art event marking the 50th Anniversary of Valley Action Abilities, a community based non-profit. It was a collaboration between Valley Action Abilities, the Station Arts Centre, the Town of Rosthern and Affinity Credit Union to celebrate inclusion and full participation in all aspects of life. The event focused on creating large scale, circle-based paintings. The circle is a symbol of unity, wholeness, connection and inclusion. The goal of this project was and is for us to see our commonalities, our shared humanity and our desire for good in our lives, which ideally, leads to wishing for good in the lives of others, our communities and the world.
The murals that have been created for this project are meant to reflect the joy of living in a town where everyone can participate, and every contribution is valued. The project involved more than 100 people painting a dozen murals on May 31st, between 11:00am and 2:30pm in downtown Rosthern. The finished murals will be displayed at several outdoor sites around our town in the coming weeks.
It was amazing to have had over 300 participants join us for food, laughter and art. It is amazing what we have painted together!
