A message about upcoming changes at the Station
Dear Station Arts Centre Supporters,
We are reaching out with an important and heartfelt update about upcoming changes at the Station Arts Centre. Like many nonprofits in Saskatchewan, we face significant financial challenges due to reduced funding, rising costs, and a business model that has not been sustainable. After much reflection, discussion, and consideration, the Board has made the difficult decision to implement significant changes that we hope will ensure the Station’s long-term viability.
Upcoming Changes
1. Closure of the Craft Beer & Coffee Bar:
The Café’s last day of operation will be Saturday, December 22, 2024. After nearly three wonderful years, this space will close temporarily. In the coming months, we will seek options for the Café’s operation while continuing to complement the Station’s arts programming.
2. Staffing Adjustments:
Most staff positions will be discontinued, leaving only a reduced administrative team. Nicole Thiessen will remain as the sole staff member managing operations with volunteer support.
3. Programming Modifications:
The Station will be closed until mid-January 2025. Upon reopening, it will focus on art activities, events, visual art exhibits, and private rentals. Programming will be streamlined, but we remain committed to offering the OSAC Concert series and select Thursday evening events.
4. Financial Sustainability Measures:
A consultant will be engaged to guide us in reimagining an organization that can thrive in the future. During this process, we want to actively involve you — our members, donors, patrons, and sponsors — to envision an arts centre that can serve the community for decades to come.
A Call to Action
We need your support now more than ever. Our current financial deficit is a significant obstacle, but with your generosity, we can stabilize the Station and move forward. Please consider contributing generously to our Fund the Flow campaign, which you can learn more about on our social media channels.
A Time of Change and Hope
This is an emotional time for all of us. The Station has been a cornerstone of our community for over 35 years, and we are committed to preserving its legacy. These changes are necessary to secure a future where the Station can continue to bring people together through art and creativity.
Thank you for your understanding, support, and belief in the importance of the Station Arts Centre. Together, we can navigate this challenging period and create an arts centre that will continue to inspire future generations.
With gratitude,
The Station Arts Centre Board and Directors
